February 2025

February 11th, 2025

February is in full swing, one month closer to spring! Here at WaterMarks, we are planning and looking forward to the Summer months, when we can all be outside and explore our waterways together. Until then, we are planning some walks in the Sherman Park and West Basin neighborhoods for this spring, and we are meeting with our CUWG team a little more frequently.

January CUWG meeting updates

Connecting and Sharing in Lindsay Heights

Last month some of the WaterMarks team met with members of the Community University Working Group to discuss the future of the project as well as give each other various announcements about our neighborhoods and organizations. It was a bright and happy meeting in the new Wellness Commons in Lindsay Heights. While we can't share the updates widely, we want to encourage you all to keep an eye on our newsletter for announcements about upcoming walks, workshops, and special events!

Partner Events

WaterMarks isn't building an atlas of water alone. We work with countless organizations and individuals on this endeavor. WaterMarks Community-University Working Group is a collective of residents, artists, community-based institutions, and researchers who assemble to guide the future of water in Milwaukee.

Here are some upcoming events that our partners are hosting:

"Can I Hold Something?"

Kim Miller: Social Choreography

Working with the text of activist and academic Walter Rodney, Kim will try to let go of language and invites you to join as audience or participant.

Community Resources

An integral part of the environmental conversation is how we plan to protect and support the vulnerable members of our communities. With the Wisconsin winter in full swing, we are thinking about everyone struggling through the cold and the people that are working tirelessly to help.

Call this number and the operators will provide you with information on a wide variety of non-emergency family, financial, health and social service issues.

Community services for those facing houselessness

Consider donating items as well as your time, to help support integral organizations. After the New Year, many organizations have noticed a decrease in financial support, but we are moving into the coldest part of the year when these programs need the most support.

Please take some time to research what resources may be available in your neighborhood and the surrounding areas.
